Lotto 6/49 Numbers
View the latest Lotto 6/49 winning numbers as soon as they are available. The six main winning numbers and the Bonus Ball are shown below. Draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday, and you can find out straight away whether you have won.
Lotto 6/49 has been giving away huge jackpots to players across Canada since 1982. In fact, a group of 17 oil and gas plant workers from Camrose in Alberta held the record for the biggest payout ever seen in the country when they won more than $54 million on Lotto 6/49 in October 2005. Even if the jackpot doesn't get won, one player is guaranteed to become $1 million richer in every draw.
A great updated version of Lotto 6/49 will arrive in September 2022 to celebrate the game's 40th birthday. Read on for information on the new rolling Gold Ball Jackpot that starts at $10 million, along with other changes that are coming to Western Canada this fall, plus how to play and win the current version of the game.
Updates to Lotto 6/49
Beginning with the Wednesday, September 14, 2022 draw, every Lotto 6/49 play will have the chance to win two multimillion-dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets for the reformatted game will go on sale on the morning of Sunday, September 11, 2022.
In the September 10, 2022 draw, the full Lotto 6/49 jackpot will either be won or will be split by winners in lower prize tiers; it will not carry over.
Below are the changes that will be in effect for the September 14 draw:
- The Main Draw, with six numbers from 1-49, will become the Classic Draw. Rather than a rolling jackpot, the top prize will be a fixed $5 million.
- The guaranteed prize draw will become the Gold Ball Draw. Match the 10-digit number to win either a $1 million guaranteed prize or a rolling Gold Ball Jackpot.
- The ticket that matches the 10-digit number has the chance to win a Gold Ball Jackpot that starts at $10 million and can climb over $60 million, increasing by $2 million in each draw until someone hits it.
- There is initially a 1 in 30 chance of the Gold Ball being drawn and the player hitting the jackpot.
- If the Gold Ball is not drawn, the player receives $1 million and the ball is removed from the pool - so the odds of the Gold Ball being drawn get better with each draw unil a lucky winner takes home the jackpot.
What's Staying the Same
WC players will be glad to hear that the Lotto 6/49 ticket price will stay at $3 per play. Players can choose six numbers from 1 to 49 and will continue to receive a random 10-digit raffle number. Advance Play will still be available as well.
Draws will continue to be held twice every week, on Wednesday and Saturday night. There will be a guaranteed winner in every draw, and the odds of winning any prize on the Classic Draw will stay the same: 1 in 6.6 per play.
There will also be no change to Western 649 and Extra.
How to Play Lotto 6/49
As the name of the game suggests, to play Lotto 6/49 you must select six numbers from 1 to 49. You can either pick your own numbers or choose the Quick Pick option if you'd prefer to have a set chosen at random by the ticket terminal.
You can make up to six Lotto 6/49 selections on each slip. For each one, you'll automatically receive a random code for the Guaranteed Prize Draw. The cost per selection is $3.
There's also the option to add other games to Lotto 6/49 to give you even more chances to win. You can play Western 649 alongside Lotto 649 for an additional $1 per board. If you select the 'Play Both' option on your playslip, you will receive the same numbers for each draw. To get a different set of numbers for each game, leave the 'Play Both' box blank and just say yes to Western 649.
You can also add Extra to your selection for another $1 per play. A random seven-digit number will be generated on your ticket. Match it to the winning Extra number exactly to win the $250,000 jackpot, or pick up a prize for matching the last one, two, three, four, five or six numbers.
You can play up to 25 consecutive draws. Tickets can be purchased until 9:30pm Central Time (8:30pm Mountain Time/7:30pm Pacific Time) on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
How to Win Lotto 6/49
You win Lotto 6/49 prizes by matching the numbers you have selected to the winning numbers. You need to get all six the same as the main numbers to win the jackpot, which starts at $5 million and grows when it is not won.
There's no limit on how high the jackpot can go. It has even been known to climb beyond $60 million.
You can also win prizes by matching fewer numbers, starting from just two out of six. A Bonus Ball is drawn from the 43 numbers that are remaining after the main six have been selected. If this matches one of the numbers on your playslip, it boosts the value of prizes in certain categories.

Guaranteed $1 Million Prize Draw
You are automatically entered into the Guaranteed Prize Draw when you play Lotto 6/49. For each entry that you have for Lotto 6/49, you receive an eight-number code, followed by a two-digit trailer (for example 12345678-01).
The first eight digits are generated at random and are unique to your Lotto 6/49 ticket (all codes generated in Western Canada begin with a 2 or 3). If you've purchased a ticket with multiple selections, the final two digits will start at 01 for the first one and increase by one for each subsequent selection.
A winning code is selected at random on the night of the draw. Match it exactly, with all the digits in the same place, and you'll win $1 million. Only the codes that have been generated are entered into the final draw, so there is always guaranteed to be a winner.
