Extra is a game that can be played every day of the week in Western Canada. There's a top prize of $250,000 if you match all the winning numbers in order, and you can even win just by matching one number. Find out more about how Extra works.
How to Play Extra
You cannot play Extra on its own. It is an add-on game that can be played alongside other Western Canada Lottery games.
- Daily Grand on Mondays and Thursdays
- Lotto Max or Western Max every Tuesday and Friday
- Lotto 6/49 or Western 649 every Wednesday and Saturday
- Pick games every day
All you have to do to play is mark the Extra option on the selection slip of the game you are entering, or tell the retailer you'd also like to play Extra if you are requesting a Quick Pick.
It costs an additional $1 per Extra number. You can play one number for every $3 Daily Grand purchase, $5 Lotto Max purchase, $3 Lotto 6/49 purchase, $2 Western Max purchase or $1 Western 69 purchase.
When you play Extra, your number is entered into the same draw date(s) as you are playing in the main game at the top of the ticket. You need to get your entries in by 9:30pm Central Time (8:30pm Mountain Time/7:30pm Pacific Time) on draw days.
The Extra number consists of seven random digits from 0 to 9. It's possible for the same number to appear multiple times.
How to Win
To win the $250,000 jackpot, your seven-digit Extra number must be exactly the same as the winning seven-digit number that is drawn for that particular date. The position of the digits is vital, as the order must be the same.
If you don't match all the numbers, you can still win prizes for matching fewer than seven in the correct order. However, you only win if your numbers are in the same order from the back. For example, if the winning Extra number is 1234567, you are guaranteed to win a prize if your final digit is 7. If your final digit is something else, you can't win regardless of how many other numbers you have in the right order.
